From the Editor-in-Chief

Magnolia’s theme for this year, déjà vu, is the eerie feeling of having lived through one’s present situation before. Part science, part spirituality, this phenomenon’s explanation draws from dreams, neuroscience, psychic intuition, and memory alike. Déjà vu invites you to embrace the weird, the unknown, and the unexplained.

To everyone who submitted their work to this issue of Magnolia—thank you. This magazine exists to serve you, Maryville’s literary and artistic community, and it is an honor to exhibit your talent.

We would also like to thank our generous donors who make Magnolia possible, Mark McCabe of Modern Litho, St. Louis for his continuous support of the magazine, and Dr. Germaine Murray, our faculty advisor, for her abiding confidence in her students.

Magnolia would not be possible without a hard-working and dedicated staff. My endless gratitude goes out to my brilliant editorial staff, whose creativity and commitment inspires me, and to the graphic design team—your artistic talent dazzles me and your expertise is vital to this magazine.

It has been an honor to serve as your Editor-in-Chief and it is my pleasure to present the 2021 edition of Magnolia.
