About Magnolia

Magnolia is a student-run magazine featuring the creative work of Maryville students, faculty, and alumni. Our purpose is to give a voice to Maryville students, faculty, and alumni by providing an opportunity to share their creative efforts.

Origins

Editor Amy Kohl Butz and Brigid Huey founded the magazine in 2004 with a small budget of $400. They did all typesetting, layout, and solicitation for submissions. They called the magazine Magnolia, because of the number of magnolia trees on campus, and because of the trees’ connection to the state of Missouri.
